What a great honour to have my work nominated in the wedding photographer of the year category at The Irish Professional Photographers Association annual awards, my second year in a row after also being nominated in the same awards in 2016. This is a national award that is very competitive and recognises leading photographers in the country. It’s always particularly pleasing when your work is judged and acknowledged by fellow professionals to be of a very high standard and on a professional level it’s good to know that you are creating images that are at the cutting edge of wedding photography in Ireland.
Had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of the beautiful Nicola and Adrien recently. Their ceremony took place in the Salthill Church, a beautiful ceremony that was further enhanced by the stunning voice of Nicola McGuire. For anyone looking for a vocalist for their wedding be it church or wedding reception I highly recommend Nicola. After the ceremony we headed to the prom on Salthill, luckily the rain stayed away (ah, Ireland) and we managed to get some pictures on the beach, the fact that everyone was up for the pictures made my job very easy. We then headed back to the Glenlo Abbey Hotel another stunning location and a place that I love working in, Cathy (Melia) is always on hand ensuring everything is organised and running smoothly another lady that I can’t praise highly enough. While taking the images of Adrien and Nicola it was one of the few times I felt small (in stature J) I’m 6’2” Adrien was 6’7” tall and an absolute gentleman also. I really enjoyed being in the company of Nicola and Adrien a warm friendly couple who were up for a laugh, I thoroughly enjoyed photographing their wedding and may you have a wonderful life together, Michael.
Had the pleasure of participating in the wedding salon which was held in The g Hotel Galway at the weekend a unique event that I thoroughly enjoyed, thanks to Suzanne Meade for all her hard work in organising the event. I also had the opportunity to do a very quick bridal fashion shoot with the fabulous models from Catwalk Modelling Agency and thanks to Mandy Maher also for all of her help a true professional. The bridal gowns on display are from Belladonna Bridal and De Stafford Bridal Dublin IrelandSimply Divine Cakes were also involved, his cakes are works of art and delicious yum yum :)
I always enjoy photographing weddings at The g Hotel in Galway. The modern decor of the venue really adds to the image making process, almost everywhere you point your camera there is an opportunity to create pictures. It is a colourful and vibrant location and depending on the time of year there is an abundance of natural light also. From a creative point of view when I approach a wedding I like to use a mixture of flash and available light. I had the pleasure recently of shooting the wedding of Heather and James; here is a small selection of images from their special day.
Ciara and Brian were a fabulous couple to work with, as were their families. The weather was good and everyone was in great spirits, a Honda 50 also made a guest star appearance. Ciara had secretly bought the bike for Brian as a wedding present (Brian and Honda 50's have a bit of history together) and had it delivered to his parent’s house via friend on the morning of their wedding. I was photographing the groomsmen when the bike arrived and the look of surprise on Brian's face when that arrived was priceless. The wedding ceremony took place at Tourlestrane church and their wedding reception was held in The Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone, Co. Sligo. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get Ciara on the Honda 50 mind you that might have been a bit risky on my part. Note to self never put a bride in danger of being physically hurt. Here a small selection of images from their wedding day.
